Bali 2008  - THE NEGARA ORPHANAGE, Part 2.

The Year of the Family.

These are other pictures that didn’t seem to fit into the 'Negara Orphanage' section of the story but that I just can’t leave out - - - -

This overflow of stuff from Wayan's car had to go into Made’s van.

Made Maeve had to go into Made’s van.

Yeyen, in pink in the left photo with her best friend, has developed into a confident young lady since I first photographed her in 2005 (in the right photo) as a sad newcomer to the orphanage who had not yet found a ‘best friend’. Everyone got a Golliwog, even the carers.

Carers – ‘Bless ‘em.’                                                        My new cap.

Declan was an instant hit with his big jar of Chupa Chups - - and he even managed to save some for the big girls when they got back from school.

Even the workers on the new site, the boy’s dorm, got Chuppa Chups.

‘Untuk di bagi bagi’Share with others.

Computer winners had to share with two friends but some just had to have more than two.

Would you wear fur-lined gloves in Bali?

Well you would if you were a cowboy who had just won a computer.

Hair scrunchies are always just the best for growing girls – and Aussie ones are so much better than the local variety.

Wayan Declan had some mates even before we finished unloading the vans but he should have worn a cap instead of giving them all away.

Part of the old building is in the background giving a stark reminder of how much better things are now.

This link will take you on to, 'Pura Rambut Siwi', the temple up on the coastal bluff overlooking the black sand beaches that stretch from about Soka (which is north of Kuta/Legian/Seminyak beaches) up past Gilimanuk, almost to the 'dog's nose' of Bali. (***)

(***) If you look at a map of Bali it's not hard to imagine that it resembles the outline of a dog's head looking to the left. The top of the head is around Singaraja/Lovina with the eye about the location of the twin lakes Buyen and Tamblingan; the neck parts are along the south east coast from Sanur to Candi Dasa and the mouth and chin are along the south west coast from Negara to Tabanan.

This link will take you back to the first page of the 2008 story if you want to re-visit some part.
